What this site is not ment to do it promote the various bootleg copies of Star Wars that are floating around. If you want bootlegs go elsewhere!! This site is dedicated to the Official release of the Star Wars DVDs.

F.A.Q.

Q: When is Star Wars coming to DVD?

A: Lucas has said in the official press release that he will not be putting Star Wars on DVD until he is finished with Episodes 2 and 3. So figure around 2006 or so. It has been confirmed that an Episode 1 DVD is in production. No release date has been set as of yet, but rumor has it being released October 16, 2001. During a Home Theater Forum chat with Fox it was mentioned that Sci-Fi fans will be happy in June of 2001. You can see the chat log in its entirety here, just do a search for June with your browser and you will find the quote. There has been no rumors if any Episodes 4-6 DVD's are in production.

UPDATE: Lucas has officially announced that Episode 1 will be released on DVD on October 16, 2001. Check out here to see what specs it will have. Still no word on when the Trilogy will be released.

Q: Where can I get bootleg copies Star Wars on DVD?

A: China or Hong Kong (same place these days). I recommend you go first class, because it is a long flight. You can get price quotes for tickets at Cheap Tickets. A first class round trip ticket will from Los Angeles to Hong Kong will cost you about $7000. I personally think investing the money at 6% (compounded monthly) is a better deal it will get you about $10,000 after 6 years. Think of the home theatre you could get for that amount to watch the official release of Star Wars on DVD. Or you could spend $7000 on a poor quality bootleg DVD... Don't join the dark side!! Don't buy bootleg DVD's!!!

UPDATE: Beware of all the so called DVD's that are available from online auction places. They generally start around $30 US for the Trilogy and $15 US for Episode 1. Be for warned that these are not DVD's... these are VCD's!!! They are basic CD's with video on them. The quality is no better than VHS. Don't waste your money.

Q: If I can't get Episode on DVD when will it be out officially on VHS (or some other sub-standard form of video presentation that I really don't want to buy because I have a DVD player)?

A: The release date for VHS was on April 4, 2000. You can also get Episode 1 on Laser Disc. But be warned it is an import from Japan and will cost about $80 US. It does not have english subtitles for the alien talking bits. On a good note it has an excellent DD 5.1 track.

Q: Why is Lucas waiting so long to release Star Wars on DVD?

A: Lucas has officially commented that he is too busy making Episode 2 to work on any DVD's. Nobody is really sure why this is, it just is. There are many theories floating about, like he is waiting for a better technology to present it on, he doesn't like DVD, or there could be some sort of gas leak at his house that is affecting his judgement. If you really want to know either A: ask Lucas or B: call a psychic.

Q: How many Lucasfilm employees does it take to change a lightbulb?

A: All of them
